THINGS TO DO

Family Fun

  • The Cape Public Library has an incredible children's section with discovery tables, puppets, sensory boards and a full schedule of activities and programs - and you can access it all without a library card! ~5-minute drive from the cottage. 

  • Discovery Playhouse is a children's museum perfect for kids ages 6 months - 12 years. Their infant play space is great, and the Ninja Warrior Obstacle Course, airplane kids can climb in and pretend to pilot, art studio and stage with dress-up clothes keep your kids busy and engaged. ~10-minute walk from the cottage. 

  • Hike, fish, and explore indoors and out at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. This free facility also has aquariums full of native Missouri wildlife and hands-on activities for all ages. ~10-minute drive from the cottage. 

  • Open Memorial Day - Labor Day, Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center makes your kids' waterpark dreams come true with slides, pools, a watery playground, a pirate ship, a lazy river and more. ~10-minute drive from the cottage. 

  • Your little ones can bounce all of those wiggles out at Safari Playland, an indoor bounce house spot a ~10-minute drive from the cottage, and at Ultimate Air Trampoline Park, a ~15-minute drive from the cottage. 

  • Putt-putt or hit the driving range at the Teehouse


History

  • The Glenn House is a restored Victorian house museum a ~5-minute walk from the cottage. Their Christmas tours are so special with dozens of decorated trees, and the recently restored servant's quarters tell a new story about the Glenn family and the people who lived there. 

  • Crisp Museum, a ~5-minute walk from the cottage, has the 2nd largest collection of unbroken Native American pottery in North America and exhibits on life in a river town during the era of steamboats. 

  • Ivers Square, a ~2-minute walk from the cottage, has a stunning United States Colored Troops Memorial (one of only three in existence) statue that honors African-American Union soldiers who risked their lives and liberated themselves by enlisting at this spot during the Civil War. Shopping

  • Stash has on-trend women's clothing and jewelry, beautifully gathered by owner Emily, on Main Street in downtown Cape Girardeau.

  • Aesthete Luxury Resale Boutique is a favorite; where else can you find vintage Christian Dior and Chanel and like-new Lululemon and Madewell? Jamie and Chi will take wonderful care of you. 

  • Annie-Em's at Home is our go-to for the chicest hostess or shower gifts. 

  • Just up Broadway, Mollie Paperie is a locally owned stationery company filled with many special finds. 

  • If you need a gift for the person who has everything, Bloom Studio is your saving grace! This gift shop has a wonderful selection for everyone on your list. 

  • Annie Laurie's is a vintage-lovers dream come true. Proprieter Laurie puts her eclectic touch on everything in this wonderland of a store.

  • Spanish Street Mercantile is our go-to for antiques, and owner Charlie Bertrand's selection of architectural salvage pieces is the best around.
